We are living in strange times. Phones are smarter, cities are bigger, and life is faster than ever. But somewhere in this rush, we have forgotten a simple truth – how to love. Love is slowly disappearing, and in its place, lust has taken over. Not just lust for the body, but lust for money, lust for power, and lust for pleasure in every form.
The Difference Between Love and Lust
This is not a small problem. It is the silent reason behind so much of the depression, anxiety, and mental stress we see around us today. People have more comforts than any generation before, yet they feel more empty inside. Why? Because we are chasing things that never truly satisfy us.
Lust always wants more. It is never full. If you crave money, one million is not enough, you want ten. If you crave power, one position is not enough, you want a bigger one. If you crave pleasure, one moment fades and you are already searching for the next. Lust is a fire that burns brighter the more you feed it, and it burns you along with it. That is why it brings stress, restlessness, and fear – fear of losing what you have, fear of not getting what you want.
Love is the opposite. Love does not demand, it gives. Love does not compare, it accepts. Whether it is love for yourself, your soulmate, your friends, your family, or even a stranger or an animal on the street – real love asks for nothing in return. And strangely, when you stop demanding, you finally feel at peace.
Why We Have Forgotten How to Love
We have forgotten how to love ourselves. We judge our bodies, our achievements, our mistakes so harshly. We have forgotten how to love our family, always too busy to sit and talk. We have forgotten how to love strangers, always suspicious, always guarded. Slowly, this forgetting has created a world full of lonely people surrounded by other lonely people.
The Way Back: Control Your Mind and Senses
The good news is, this can change. But it starts with one important step – controlling your mind and your senses.
Our senses are naturally pleasure-seeking. Your eyes want to see something exciting, your tongue wants tasty food, your mind wants comfort and validation. Left unchecked, these senses will always run after lust, because lust gives instant pleasure. It is quick, easy, and tempting.
But if you slow down and observe your own mind – your thoughts, your cravings, your reactions – you begin to gain control. This does not mean you punish yourself or give up everything you enjoy. It simply means you stop being a slave to every craving that rises within you.
What Happens When You Find Control
Once you learn to control your senses, something beautiful happens. You feel peace. Not excitement, not a rush, but a calm, steady peace. You start enjoying small moments – a cup of tea, a conversation with a friend, a quiet morning – without needing anything more.
This peace has no fear attached to it. You are not afraid of losing it, because it does not depend on outside things. It comes from within. And when you live in that peace, you naturally start loving more – yourself, the people around you, and even life itself.
So the choice is simple, though not always easy. Chase lust, and you will always be running, always be stressed, never satisfied. Choose love, and you will finally be able to rest.

A thought came to mind while reading this: what if something we dismiss as lust is actually love in its early stages?
At the beginning, both can feel intense. Both can make you think about someone constantly, want to be close to them, and fill your mind with emotion. How do we tell the difference before time reveals it?
Maybe the real question isn’t how strong the feeling is, but what it makes us become. Because what i think that it is definitely love if that feeling makes you happy, gives you butterflies.
I’d love to hear your perspective on where you think the line between love and lust is, especially in the beginning of a relationship.
Thank you for your thoughtful question! 😊 We actually discuss this topic in more detail in our blog. We believe it will answer your question about where the line between love and lust begins to appear.
